Freestyle:

Start – The forward start shall be used.

Stroke - The freestyle stroke means any style other than butterfly, breaststroke or backstroke. Some part of the swimmer must break the surface of the water throughout the race. The swimmer may be completely submerged during a turn and for a distance of not more than 15 meters after the start and each turn. After 15 meters the head must have broken the surface.

Turns – A swimmer must touch the wall, to signify the completion of one length in the heat. If the swimmer cannot compete a flip turn, he may touch the wall with a hand to push off and continue. During a flip turn the swimmer will touch the wall with his feet to push off.

Finish – The swimmer shall have finished the race when any part of his person touches the wall after completing the prescribed distance.
